Dr. John Dugan III is a board-certified gastroenterologist with expertise in gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), and irritable bowel syndrome. He cares for patients with a broad range of digestive health concerns, including abdominal pain, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, constipation, nausea, and vomiting.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Dugan performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. His procedural expertise includes the detection and removal of polyps, treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, dilation of strictures, and surveillance of precancerous conditions such as Barrett’s esophagus.
Dr. Dugan earned his medical degree and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he received multiple awards for excellence, leadership, and compassionate patient care. He went on to complete his gastroenterology fellowship at the same institution, training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center, and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow in his final year.
Before joining his current practice, Dr. Dugan cared for patients at the Medical Clinic of Houston in a multidisciplinary setting, further strengthening his patient-centered approach and building strong ties within the Houston community.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Dugan enjoys family life with his wife and their three children, including boy-girl twins and a younger son.
